In this article I’m going to tell how to feed kittens in the age from 1 week up to 8-9 months. At the age of 8-9 and more months a kitten can be already fed with food for adult cats.
How to feed a suckling kitten (less than one month old):
It is better not to take such a little kitten from his mom. But if this already happened – you will have to feed the baby instead of its mother. Such little kittens should eat 5-6 times a day. You can use special formula for children, special milk formula for kittens (check in the pet shops) or to make such formula yourself. For this mix whole goat or cow milk with a raw egg and thoroughly filter it with the help of gauze. No matter what feeding formula you chose, it should be heated up to 3035 degrees Celsius. If your kitten refuses to eat the food you offer, try to make or buy another formula.
How to feed a kitten at the age of 1-8 months:
After your kitten reached one month you can gradually try to offer it grated meat (beef or chicken), cottage cheese and dairy products.
The main thing is to remember that your pet’s diet should be changed gradually. When a kitten is 2-3 months already, you can feed it with dry or liquid food for kittens, but again – gradually!
Constantly check your kitten’s health and behavior – it should be lively and active. If it is not so it means you feed it not properly. Try to change the food and visit a vet for consultation.
Special food or food from your table:
Do not give your kitten the products you eat yourself. Such food contains many ingredients dangerous for kittens and cats, for example salt and spices. You have to adapt your pet to dry or liquid food for cats the sooner the better. Also, do not use cheap food – it is of low quality and unhealthy for your pets.
If you are in a situation when you still have to feed your kitten or cat with ordinary products, try to avoid especially unhealthy food. More detailed information about proper food for cats you can read in our other article. Good luck to you and your pet!
