It was prohibited to use Skype at our work and now it simply can’t be connected to the net. I’ve heard that there are some possibilities to use Skype directly via browser. Please, explain how to do it!

Yes, you can use Skype online right in the browser, without software installing and downloading. If you are an owner of up-to-date operational system (Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 10) then you can even make voice and video calls online in Skype. If you have Windows XP, then, unfortunately, you can use only text chats.

How to use Skype online without downloading:

  1. Use any up-to-date browser to visit web.skype.com page. It’s recommended to use Chrome, Firefox or Internet Explorer, version 10 and higher. In Internet Explorer 7, 8 and 9 Skype either won’t work at all, or will work very slowly and with mistakes;
  2. Enter your Skype login and password:
  3. You’ll see a Skype window on your screen – it looks very much alike the one you’ve already seen previously in your ordinary Skype program.

Now you can use Skype online via your browser, but only for text chats yet. To make video and audio calls you will need to install a special plugin for your browser.

Web skype

Press "Call" or "Video call" icon – this will start a simple setup master downloading. You’ll be offered to install a special plugin and check speakers, mic and web camera.
