Please tell me how to turn off the touchpad on the laptop. I do not use it at all, but it makes me mad, when I suddenly slide with my hand when typing. Thank you in advance for helping me!

Indeed, the touchpad on the laptop often interferes with typing, as the cursor skips if you touch the touchpad with your hand. You can try to reduce the sensitivity of the touchpad - this way it will work for your fingers and will not in case you slide with the palm of your hand. But not every touchpad has such an opportunity, so in this article we will consider how to disable the touchpad so that it does not interfere with your work.

Disabling the touchpad with a keyboard shortcut

Almost all laptops feature the row of function keys on the keyboard, so there is a button to disable the touchpad. It looks something like this:

Normally you need to press it together with the FN key.

Some manufacturers, for example HP, place the touchpad disabling button directly on the touchpad itself. Usually it is touch-sensitive and is located in the upper left corner:

To turn the touchpad off or on, you need to quickly press it 2 times.

Disabling the touchpad by software methods

Open the "Control Panel" and find there the item "Mouse Properties". In the window that opens, you need to go to the "Device Settings" tab (usually the last one). There you need to select your touchpad and click "Disable":

Also, there is an interesting parameter - you can configure the automatic disconnection of the touchpad when the mouse is connected.

Disabling the touchpad in the BIOS

How to access the BIOS is described in detail in our article. There we are interested in the section "Internal pointing device", first of all it is necessary to look for it in the tab "Advanced". There you need to set the value "Disabled":

There is also a radical way, like disabling the plume of the touch panel. Of course, you need to partially disassemble the laptop to do that, and we do not recommend you to.
